Family Therapy
How family therapy helped me?

Behaviour book

Purchase a notebook and let the child help with its decoration, use a photograph if possible and cut out the words from a magazine to stick onto the front cover.
e.g. The words "A book about Toby" surrounding a photo of Toby sitting at a table.
Using a page a day, write in an achievement, using the child in the first person e.g. "I cleaned my teeth" or "I let mummy talk on the phone for 5 minutes" then tick this and draw a smiley face and write "very good". Gradually the achievements will add up. Every night place a smiley sticker at the top of the page and start a fresh page the next day. Encourage good behaviour by praising the child immediately, then a hug and write it into the behaviour book. Let the child watch you do this. Show the book to visitors or encourage the child to do so. Establish a reward system e.g. one weeks-worth of smiley stickers equals a pound in his money box towards a coveted toy, or a trip to the park.
